Join us at Foxtrot on Saturday July 9th at 6 p.m. for a powerful 13-minute documentary "Sweet
Samara," will be followed by a discussion with director Divad Durant along with members of the film’s cast from Sweet Freedom Farm.
The film follows Jalal Sabur, a Black farmer in upstate New York, as he tends land through changing seasons while making maple syrup — work that becomes both literal and metaphorical in the journey toward liberation.
The screening follows a community farm day at Sweet Freedom Farm, where members of the public are invited to gather during the morning of Aug. 9 at Sweet Freedom Farm in Germantown,N.Y. to learn about and explore African diasporic crops, honor ancestors and deepen the connections between the community and the land.
Tickets are on a sliding scale from $20 through Eventbrite - all proceeds go to Supporting Incarcerated Families

Inspired by Forest Euphoria: The Abounding Queerness of Nature by mycologist Patricia Ononiwu Kaishian (Spiegel & Grau, 2025), the exhibition explores queer ecologies, embodiment, and human–land relationships through painting, photography, sculpture, textiles, and more.
